Nueva Vizcaya eco-tourism park to host 11th National Caving Congress

  

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya , March 19(PIA)- Provincial officials here are closely supervising the the ground works being carried out in preparation for its hosting of the 11th National Caving Congress slated next month.

The more than 1,000 hectare Lower Magat Eco-Tourism Park(LMETP) in barangay San Luis in Diadi town will serve as the venue for this year’s caving congress which will be participated by caving enthusiasts, cave guides, spelunkers and local and foreign tourists.

“Preparations are on-going and we hope to complete all the needed requirements before the caving congress comes,” said Marichelle Costales, acting provincial tourism officer.

She said organizers and host provincial officials have chosen the LMETP as a venue for this year’s caving congress to promote its potentials as an alternative tourist attraction in the province.

The LMETP, situated within a wide expanse of forest cover covering the 24,000 hectare portion of the Lower Magat Forest Reserve(LMFR) also covers barangays Bugnay, San Luis and Villa Aurora in Diadi town and barangays Baretbet and Villaros in Bagabag town.

LMFR provides watershed protection support to the Magat Reservoir and Power Project between Ramon, Isabela and Alfonso LIsta in Ifugao province.

Governor Luisa Cuaresma has initiated the full development of the LMETP not only as an alternative tourist attraction but also as an economic enterprise project of the provincial government.

Some of the major developments in the LMETP are the repair and improvement of its circumferential road and rehabilitation of its old structures.

The LMETP showcases the natural resource of the province while it provides educational, recreational and spiritual values, attracting both local and foreign tourists by creating adequate infrastructure for accommodation, food and transport facilities, sanctuary areas, and zoological gardens.

Biking, trekking, nature trails, boating, horseback riding, fishing, viewing and marveling on its scenic hills, valleys and meadows are some of the activities that can be offered within the LMETP.

At present, amenities and facilities such as log cabin, comfort rooms, picnic huts, cultural-inspired cottages, coffee shop, a prayer house, a pavilion, dormitory, and a firing range are already completed including the butterfly sanctuary. (By Ben Moses Ebreo, PNA)
